Vision > Student Success Initiative
The Student Success Initiative was started by the Ministry of Education based on the recommendations of an expert panel in 2002. The panel was responding to the reports of Dr. Alan King of Queen's University, which identified 25% of students in Ontario as high school dropouts.
The Ministry defined changes needed in education reverse this trend, especially programming aimed at students going directly to work, students performing at Level 1 or below in elementary school, students achieving at grades below the mid-60's in secondary school, students who would have studied at the Basic and Modified Basic level under the old curriculum, and disengaged students who are poor attendees. King also identified low credit counts at the end of grades 9 and 10 as indicators of probable drop out behaviour.
The initiative has been established in all school boards and school authorities across Ontario.
The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board is committed to partnerships of students, families, schools, and communities that define and develop pathways that are equitably accessible. These pathways provide all students with opportunities to set goals, achieve their potential and experience personal success.
