In 2007-2008 KPR is continuing to support techers in Differentiating Instruction in mathematics. Teachers are encouraged to continue to use the TIPS4RM (Targeted Planning and Implementation Supports for Revised Mathematics) and PRIME (Professional Resources and Instruction for Mathematics Educators). TIPS4RM focuses on instructional strategies used to teach mathematics. TIPS lessons place an emphasis on programming for a wide variety of learners needs. PRIME is a mathematics continuum that assists teachers in differentiating instruction for students struggling with mathematics.
KPR is also particpating in a number of Ministry funded research programs that are focused on improving mathematics learning for grade 7-10. In the fall of 2007 CLIPS (Critical Learning Instructional Paths) focussing on fractions were made available to grade 7-10 teachers. CLIPS are self-contained learning objects that allow teachers to differentiate instruction for students who are struggling with conceptual understanding of fractions. A number of Grade 7-10 teachers are also participating in a lesson study project. This project is examining methods to differentiate instruction in mathematics using SMART board technologies. It is expected that the learning from this project will be shared with all KPR teachers in 2008.
