Skilled Trades and Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program
The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) is a program funded by the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities (MTCU) and administered by Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board (KPRDSB). The purpose of the program is to provide secondary students over the age of 16 and with 16 credits, the opportunity to explore career opportunities in the Skilled Trades and earn hours towards an apprenticeship while still in school.
Any student that is enrolled in Cooperative Education and has a placement in one of the Skilled Trades (over 135 different trades available) is considered to be an OYAP student. The OYAP students can also be registered with the MTCU as an apprentice while still in school. Some of our OYAP students apply for and are accepted to accelerated programs where they earn their basic trade certification at the same time as earning Cooperative Education credits and hours to their trade.
