Parenting for Student Success Conference - October 25, 2008 

 

Conference attendees can select two of these eight workshop topics:

 

Building a Good Relationship With Your Teacher and School: Learn about the many ways to communicate with your child's teacher and school administration, including how to resolve concerns, and how to get the most out of parent/teacher interviews.

 

Sharing Tips: Involving Parents in Your School:  Hosted by two active parents, they will share tips and strategies on what is currently working at different schools and seek your comments & ideas on new initiatives. 

 

Fostering Positive Peer Relationships:  Learn how to help your pre-teens ('tweens') develop healthy relationships with their peers, including dealing with peer pressure, fostering resiliency and ensuring inclusiveness with different peer groups.

  

Dealing with Bullying:  Learn what KPR Schools are doing to address this difficult issue, through restorative practices, school codes of conduct and other successful initiatives. 

 

Building Self-Esteem in Elementary Students:  Children with positive self-esteem do better in school, are more willing to try new things, enjoy positive friendships, and are happier and healthier.  Find out how everyday parenting strategies promote positive self esteem.

 

Dealing with Difficult People: Learn strategies for improving communication with difficult people so you can end your frustration! Learn how to defuse people who are angry, upset or just plain rude.

 

Helping Your Student be Organized:  Learn organizational strategies for both home and school that can help you and your children stay on top of the schedule and enjoying the educational experience.

 

Learning & Life Skills: Transitions to High School & Beyond for exceptional students:  KPR staff and external agency partners will provide valuable guidance to parents/guardians navigating through the educational and developmental service system.
