Sylvia Terpstra, Director of Education and Secretary of the Board, is the Chief Executive Officer and is responsible to the Board for the achievement of the Board's strategic objectives and the overall operations of the system. This includes educational, cultural, strategic, organizational, fiscal, human relations and communications leadership. The Director of Education is supported by the Associate Director who is responsible for the system when the Director is out of the Board's jurisdiction. System Superintendents report to the Director.

 

The Director of Education champions the following Strategic Directions:

• Communications
• Quality and Accountability, and
• Community Outreach.

 

The Director of Education is responsible for the following special initiatives:

• Character Development Initiative
• Student Success Initiative, and
• Managing Information for Student Achievement (MISA).

 

As well, the Director is responsible for:

• co-ordination of the implementation of the Areas of Emphasis and Strategic Directions
• the Communications Department
• The KPR/OPC Leadership Team along with the Associate Director
• governance support to the Board, Chairperson and Vice-chairperson and the review of Board policies
• partnership development initiatives (all departments will continue to develop partnerships  related to their responsibilities)
• school councils in collaboration with the Chairperson of the Board and the Communications  Department,
• Student Leadership
• The Chairpersons' Committee
• The Parent Involvement Committee, along with the Associate Director
• The SO Internship program, along with the Associate Director.
