CONDUCTING RESEARCH IN KAWARTHA PINE RIDGE

 

The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board supports educational research through its Research Advisory Committee. Investigators wishing to conduct research studies in KPR schools must submit a formal Application to Conduct Research, which is available in Microsoft Word and pdf formats.

Requests received from individuals and / or organizations are reviewed by the Research Advisory Committee to evaluate the relevance of the topic and the design of the study (i.e. appropriate qualitative or quantitative procedures; alignment of proposed analysis with research question; consistency with Board policies and priorities).

 

The protection of staff and students is also carefully evaluated to ensure appropriate participant information and consent is in place; to determine the clarity of expectations for staff and / or student time; to evaluate potential disruption to school programs and to ensure the proposed study is free from sensitive or offensive items, free from racist, sexist, religious or other bias and that participants are free from mental and physical discomfort or harm.

 

The Research Advisory Committee has the responsibility of initial approval of studies and communicates its decisions directly to the applicants and to the appropriate Superintendent and Principal. Studies approved by the Research Advisory Committee can be conducted in a KPR school (or schools) only with the complete agreement of the Superintendent(s) and Principal(s) involved. Staff, students and parents also have the right to decide if they wish to participate.

 

External applications for projects to be conducted during the 2008-09 school year will be reviewed at the next committee meeting on Thursday, September 11, 2008.

 

Please note that applications must be received 10 working days in advance of the meeting in order to be processed and included on the agenda. Applications to be reviewed at the September meetings must be received no later than Wednesday, August 27, 2008.
